Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How often should I change my air filters?

Short answer would be at least every 3 months. But depending on many factors like, area climate, pets in the home, age of the home, number of filters in the home, how many days out of the year you run your cooling and heating, and many other factors, you may need to change them every 2 months or even 1 month. Simple factor, if you change them and they are really dirty, you should probably change them more frequently.

Q:  How long will it take to get my air filters?

We ship our filters out between same day and 3 days depending on if it is an odd size filter, custom filter, or standard filter. We primarily use USPS Priority mail or FEDEX Smart Post that delivers within 3-5 days. In some cases on orders to a different region it may take up to 7 days.

Q:  Does the filter ship as soon as I place the order? Or is it three months after I place the order?

Your first order ships out within 1-3 days. Your next order is shipped either 1, 2, or 3 months later depending on your desired shipping schedule.

Q:  Am I charged every month for my filters even if I just have them delivered every 2 or 3 months?

No, you are only charged when your filters are shipped.

Q:  Which way does the filter go in?

The air filter will have an arrow on the side. You will want to install the filter so the arrow is pointing in the direction of the airflow.

Q:  If there is no arrow, which way?

If your filter is missing an arrow, you will want the side the metal facing away from you. The arrow would be pointing toward the side with metal on the filter.

Q:  Do you offer single purchases?

Yes! We do sell filters with a one time purchase.

Q:  I don't see my sizes on your website. What should I do?

We are always updating our sizes and adding new ones. You can email trane@filtertime.com

Q:  How long are your filters supposed to last?

The pleated air filters we sell can last up to 90 days. That is why we don’t offer a scheduled shipment to be more than every 3 months.

Q:  What does MERV mean?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. That basically means how effective your air filter is. It is scaled from 1-16 and 16 being the highest but we at FilterTime don’t recommend anything higher than a MERV 13 for residential homes. We like a great balance between filtration and air restriction.
Q:  Why should I change my air filters so often?

There are many benefits of changing your air filters on-time. Here are just a couple.

  • Breathe cleaner air in your home, if you don’t change your filters when they are supposed to be changed, the air in your home could be much more polluted than the air outside.
  • Save money. Changing your air filter on time can save money on your heating and cooling bill. Dirty air filters are also the leading cause for HVAC service calls. Not changing your filters regularly can also shorten the lifespan of the second most expensive thing in your home, your HVAC system.
